Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie to pitch in the Big Show? Well…maybe.

I’m a Boston College alumnus and have been a fan of Flutie since his college days at the Heights so news of Doug playing MLB intrigued me.

For a chance to pitch in the Majors, 50-year-old Flutie first has to beat out several other former quarterbacks in a new reality TV show on the MLB Network which begins February 13. It’s called “The Next Knuckler“.

Joining Doug Flutie will be John David Booty, Josh Booty, David Greene and Ryan Perrilloux.

Former Boston Red Sox standout and knuckleball expert Tim Wakefield will teach the contestants how to throw a knuckler. The most skilled knuckleball pitcher will win an invitation from the Arizona Diamondbacks to try out for the team at spring training.

OK, this is a bit of a gimmick and I doubt any of these athletes will ever pitch in an official MLB game but I’ll still check it out.
