Online Poker US Players $1 Million Guaranteed
When you hear “$1 Million Guaranteed,” what is the first word that comes to mind? Here’s one you probably didn’t consider: America, specifically the good old USA.
It’s true, though, as Americas Cardroom, the flagship of the Winning Poker Network (WPN), will host the first U.S.-friendly $1 million guaranteed online poker tournament in at least 3.5 years. The event known as “Winning Millions,” will be held December 14, 2014.
The magic $1 million has not been available to U.S. players since Black Friday in April 2011. “For more than three years, a seven-figure tournament has been completely unheard of for American players,” Americas Cardroom spokesman Michael Harris said. “This is a return to the glory days. We’re thrilled to re-set the standard for online poker.”
The $1 million guaranteed represents quite a leap forward when you consider than the total guarantee for the entire 2013 Online Super Series was $1 million, but that figure was spread over 14 days of events.
Winning Millions promises $200,000 for the winner and will be a $500+$40 buy-in. It will provide a 10,000 starting stack and five hours of late registration. There will be 15-minute blinds with an extended level structure.
Each of the top nine finishers will earn one free bank wire to help facilitate faster and more fluid payouts.
The satellite schedule will be “aggressive”, according to Dan Kent, tournament director for WPN.
There will be no less than eight qualifiers running daily, with an additional two sit-n-go’s running 24 hours a day. Buy-ins for these qualifiers range from no cost, “step” freerolls to nightly $109 satellites with at least two seats to the $1 million event guaranteed.
The Winning Millions announcement is the latest in a string of impressive promotions revealed by WPN this summer. In July, the network added $90,000 to its Beast cash game and “Sit and Crush” promotions. Prior to that, WPN added a $20,000 guaranteed high roller event to its already-stacked Sunday tournament schedule.
