Cris Cyborg vs. Ronda Rousey For Invicta FC 145lb Featherweight Belt
It’s true Ronda Rousey needs to fight Cris Cyborg to cement her legacy. She can dodge Cris with outlandish vile insults but that strategy is wearing thin.
Cris has passed every recent drug test and insists she will continue to do so but Ronda keeps hammering her for one mistake she paid dearly for almost four years ago.
Many MMA fans consider Cris Cyborg Justino to be the best P4P female MMA fighter in the world while others believe Ronda Rousey to be the top female MMA fighter.
The only way to settle this is to have these two great athletes fight each other at their best…and that is a Super Fight at 145 lbs.
No true MMA fan wants to watch an emaciated Cris Cyborg fight at 135 lbs. Simply put, Cris Cyborg cannot fight at her full potential if forced to drop almost 40 lbs starting with 4% body fat.
Ronda turned down a 145 lb fight against Cris when both fought at featherweight for Strikeforce but now there is a simple way to make this fight happen sooner rather than later.
Invicta FC and the UFC (who already have a close distribution relationship) can co-promote a Cyborg vs. Rousey Super Fight for the Invicta FC 145 lb Featherweight Title which Cris currently holds.
There will be no risk to Ronda’s UFC 135 lb Bantamweight belt. She can keep it but if she beats Cris at 145 lbs she will cement her legacy as a two division champion even if she immediately vacates the Invicta FC 145 lb belt.
Ronda Rousey has done very well masquerading as a 135 lb fighter. There is no denying her success but a little research reveals Ronda is in fact a natural 145 lb fighter.
Ronda Rousey has had 14 MMA fights (pro and amateur). Half of her MMA career has been contested at 145 lbs or higher (yes, she fought once at 150 lbs and another time at a catch weight of 147 lbs). Out of those 14 fights Ronda only fought 6 women at 135 lbs (Miesha Tate twice).
Rousey’s natural weight division is 145 lbs. She fought Hayden Munoz, Autumn Richardson, Taylor Stratford, Ediane Gomes, Charmaine Tweet, Sarah D’Alelio, and Julia Budd all at 145 lbs or higher.
Ronda competed in Judo at 156 lbs and had to cut a lot weight to do it. Plus it has been widely reported Rousey offered to fight Gina Carano in the UFC at 145 lbs. What’s fair for Gina Carano is fair for Cris Cyborg no matter how many ridiculous excuses Rousey makes.
This is the direction Cris Cyborg should be campaigning for. It’s ill advised for her to cut almost 40 pounds to face Rousey as an emaciated Cris Cyborg. Rousey wants that because she wishes to face a weaker Cyborg.
A Rousey vs emaciated Cyborg at 135 lbs will do nothing for Ronda’s legacy. She will always be known for ducking Cris Cyborg at 145 lbs, the natural weight division for both women.
Plus MMA fans will lose out on seeing Rousey vs. Cyborg at their best. The answer that solves all issues (except Rousey’s whining) is the UFC/Invicta FC co-promotion of a Super Fight for the Invicta FC 145 lb Featherweight World Championship.
Cris Cyborg should immediately stop dancing to the UFC and Dana White’s tune. She should meet with Invicta FC President Shannon Knapp and matchmaker Julie Kedzie and ask them to present the fight to the UFC and Ronda Rousey at 145 lbs.
Ronda Rousey has a limited legacy without Cris Cyborg Justino. That is a huge bargaining chip for Cris Cyborg and her team. Push for that fight and stand your ground.
Except for Miesha Tate, Ronda Rousey has pretty much cleaned out the UFC 135 lb division with first round dominating victories. Few want to see Rousey fight Holly Holm (who punches like Pee Wee Herman) or Bethe Correia who hasn’t faced any top 10 competition. Jessica Eye is a good fighter but she lost to Alexis Davis who Rousey crushed in seconds. It’s laughable to listen to Rousey and Dana White try to hype fights with these small 135 lb women, Holm, Correia and Eye. MMA fans will NOT shell out $70 to watch Ronda “fight” any of them on PPV.
The hyperbole surrounding Cat Zingano before her 14 second fail effort against Ronda was embarrassing. “Rousey’s toughest opponent yet!” Yeah sure. Cat can thank Kim Winslow’s early stoppage in the Tate fight as the seed that grew into that pile of tripe.
The UFC 135 lb division is really just Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate. Let Miesha fight Holm, Correia, Eye and send Ronda back to her natural weight division, 145 lbs to fight Cris Cyborg Justino. It’s Ronda’s only big payday fight at this time.
If Ronda wins or loses in a fight for Cyborg’s Invicta FC 145 lb Championship, she can return to bantamweight and then face Miesha Tate.
Cyborg should insist the fight happen at 145 lbs. She believes she is the best female fighter in the world. She should stop playing Rousey’s game of lies and misdirection.
Cris should take the initiative and demand a fight with Rousey at 145lbs for the reasons I stated above. She does not have to negotiate on Ronda’s terms. Those terms are complete hogwash and will evaporate as the UFC and Invicta FC realize how much money such a Super Fight would make compared to a small payday against Holm, Correia or Eye.
Cris Cyborg should stick to her guns at 145lbs. The fans want to see that fight; the UFC and Invicta FC want the money and exposure but they can’t make it happen without Cris Cyborg.
As soon as Cris recognizes how powerful her negotiating position really is…that is how the fight will occur.
