Miesha Tate or Ronda Rousey, Who’s More Likely To Spit In Your Beer?
Miesha Tate is featured in an excellent Bleacher Report article, “Miesha Tate: Barbie Dolls and Bloodshed“. Kudos to Bleacher Report Lead MMA Writer Jeremy Botter for this well written in depth report about Miesha Tate’s journey to the top level of female MMA.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and you can too here.
Miesha Tate’s opponent, UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been up to her pre-fight lying games.
At a recent UFC 168 media conference call Ronda said this:
“If you’ve really noticed, I’ve never had a problem with any other opponent that I’ve ever had, if you think about it,” Rousey said. “Everyone thinks I’m this big trash talker, but who have I had a problem with, except for Miesha.”
The buildup to Ronda’s first fight with Miesha received much press, probably more than most of Ronda’s other fights so it’s understandable that many MMA fans believe Ronda’s lie about Miesha.
Let’s look at the facts.
When called out by Marloes Coenen (who, unlike Rousey, never ran from, ducked or avoided Cris Cyborg) Ronda called her “Mar-Lose” and promised to continue to annoy her.
Ronda called her opponent Julia Budd a cheater who “greased” her body to avoid submissions. Budd refused to respond to that baseless insult except to Tweet:
“@EricHolden @rondarousey how was I slippery? She caught me in an armbar in 40 seconds?”
Before her bout with Sarah Kaufman some of Ronda’s trash talk included a promise to tear Kaufman’s arm off and throw it in her corner. Rousey also threatened to choke Sarah “…until she’s actually dead.” If that didn’t work Rousey threatened to pound Sarah’s face until she died.
Rousey’s death threats start at the 33 second mark:
She also called Sarah a “bitch”. Kaufman chose not to engage in the trash talking. So although Ronda said she “liked” Kaufman, she did trash talk her until realizing Sarah would not respond.
Of course viewers of TUF witnessed Rousey trash talk team opponent Julianna Pena by saying she didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as Shayna Baszler.
“Shayna’s great, she’s ready,” said Rousey. “This other girl doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as her, and she knows it.”
Ronda makes up falsehoods as it suits her.
Ronda lied when she blamed editors for the way she was portrayed on the TUF TV program. She claimed they showed favoritism to Miesha Tate and her team.
The truth is that the UFC was already heavily invested in Ronda Rousey. They had everything to gain by showing their “star” in a positive, favorable light.
UFC representatives work with their TV network to produce the best show. If guilty of anything, the UFC and TUF editors left much of Ronda’s bad behavior on the cutting room floor. Still, Ronda’s true character was revealed to the TV audience because the show filmed her acting and carrying on just like she always does.
Ronda continued lying when she repeatedly said:
“…Shayna losing like that and Miesha celebrating like that, I thought, was a huge insult to Shayna.”
She’s referring to Team Tate’s Julianna Pena dominant win over Team Rousey’s Shayna Baszler. The lie Rousey would have you believe is that Miesha Tate only meant to “insult” Shayna by congratulating team member, friend (and underdog) Julianna after her great victory. That of course is preposterous…another one of Ronda’s obvious lies.
It’s almost pitiful watching Ronda Rousey unravel as she spouts lie after lie. The only person responsible for destroying Ronda Rousey’s public persona is Ronda Rousey. Although she is a talented MMA fighter she seems hell bent on portraying herself as one of the most despicable people in all of MMA.
It started with her baseless insults about 22 Olympic medal winner Michael Phelps because he didn’t pay enough attention to her. She followed that nonsense with scathing attacks on celebrities as poor role models for young girls. From the TUF TV Show and press interviews we learn that her idea of a good role model is to curse, flip off and lie about an opponent.
Then there was Ronda’s “brilliant” assertion that the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre was orchestrated by the federal government.
And of course most remember her ridiculous claim that she could defeat UFC heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez.
Between crying fits on TUF Ronda found time to falsely accuse Miesha Tate and her team of racism…a complete lie but interesting when balanced against Rousey’s insistence on wearing the Rising Sun flag when she knew it was symbolic of Japanese war crimes committed during the country’s invasion of China and Korea during World War II.
Of course the charge of Armenian “racism” over a couple of harmless pranks pulled on some thin-skinned, second-rate striking coach were just more lies from Ronda, this time about racism and xenophobia.
Here’s an interesting story told by Ronda Rousey herself that provides some clarity about her character. In an interview with SI.com about her time as a bartender she admitted repeatedly spitting into an unknowing customer’s glass. The reason? He was a lousy tipper.
“Rousey: [Laughs.] Well, there was one customer who always was very, very rude, and never tipped me. And he always demanded a chilled glass for his beer. So I would take this cup, spit in it, rub the spit around, and put it in the refrigerator to let it chill. Then I’d pour him a beer into his chilled spit cup.”
Sometimes Ronda Rousey is a tin foil hat-wearing wingnut…often a liar and a hypocrite when she trashes Miesha Tate, Cris Cyborg and others. She is a skilled MMA fighter but as a human being…she is a train wreck.
