While no serious MMA fan believes Cris Cyborg is afraid to fight Ronda Rousey, most honest UFC devotees recognize Rousey IS afraid to fight Cyborg.

That’s understandable because although Ronda is a talented MMA fighter, Cris Cyborg is the best female MMA fighter in the world.

I think Ronda Rousey could be competitive against Cris Cyborg at least for the first few minutes of round 1. If Ronda can’t lock in a submission early I think Cris Cyborg will easily overwhelm Ronda, beat her up for a couple of rounds then knock her out.

Ronda is intelligent and familiar with Cris’ skills, strength, technique, power and vicious fighting style so I suspect she realizes this too.

Here’s what Ronda Rousey recently told Yahoo Sports:

“If [Cyborg] comes in the UFC and I beat the [expletive] out of her and then I retire and become an action movie star, then the UFC is still going to be stuck with her. The division could die. She could ruin the whole sport. Even though it’s a fight a lot of people want to see, even if I beat the living crap out of her, it won’t be good for the sport because then she’d still be in the UFC,”

That statement is very telling because what Ronda really means is if Cyborg joins the UFC and beats the crap out of her, the Rousey marketing effort will be damaged or ruined.

True UFC fans don’t care about Ronda Rousey’s pipe dreams of becoming “an action movie star”. They do care about exciting fighters and would welcome the best female fighter in the world, Cris Cyborg.

Ronda will continue to run and hide from Cris Cyborg as long as Dana White and UFC allow. They know a Cyborg vs. Rousey fight would be huge for the UFC but they fear a devastating loss to Cyborg will derail the “Ronda Rousey Face Of UFC” marketing gravy train.

However Ronda should be aware of a potential flaw in this scenario. Dana White can change his mind very quickly. Rousey’s talent and persona triggered White’s 180 after he had insisted women would never fight in the UFC.

Dana White can’t help it. He’s quick to see what UFC fans want and he works hard to give it to them. He is the driving force for the success of the UFC.

Eventually White will tell Rousey the running and hiding is over…you have to fight Cris Cyborg.

Ronda’s litany of despicable comments concerning Cris Cyborg will come back to haunt her. Those slurs were not only wrong, they were hypocritical.

Cris failed one drug test and for that Ronda says she should be drummed out of MMA. The hypocrisy is many male MMA fighters have failed drug tests but Ronda refuses to criticize them. Some of those fighters are her friends and others are fighters she has praised. Chael Sonnen, Royce Gracie, Nate Marquardt, Bas Rutten, Forrest Griffin, Carlson Gracie-trained Stephan Bonnar and many more have failed post fight drug tests but not a peep out of Rousey.

I believe the Cyborg vs. Rousey fight will happen soon and if Cris and her team handle the negotiations correctly the fight will be at 145lbs.

Ronda Rousey has had 13 MMA fights (pro and amateur). The majority of her MMA career has been contested at 145 lbs or higher (yes, she fought once at 150 lbs). Out of those 13 fights Ronda only fought 5 women at 135 lbs (Miesha Tate twice). Rousey’s natural weight division is 145 lbs. She fought Hayden Munoz, Autumn Richardson, Taylor Stratford, Ediane Gomes, Charmaine Tweet, Sarah D’Alelio, and Julia Budd all at 145 lbs or higher.

Ronda competed in Judo at 156 lbs and had to cut a lot weight to do it. The UFC just added a 115 lbs Women’s Division. There is a deep pool of talent at 145 lbs so the UFC should start a women’s division at that weight. Cris Cyborg should fight Ronda Rousey at 145 lbs. If the UFC doesn’t want another female division then they can still make the fight at an agreed weight of 145 lbs with no title. Recently Rousey said she would fight Gina Carano at 145lbs so why not Cris Cyborg?

Rousey is loudly booed at her fights now. Her fan base is dwindling as she proclaims she could beat Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Cain Velasquez. All this nonsense while refusing to fight Cris Cyborg at their natural weight class, 145 lbs.
