Jock Palfreeman And A Perversion Of Justice?
Jock Palfreeman is a young Australian man serving a 20 year prison sentence in Sofia Central Prison, Bulgaria.
Background on the Jock Palfreeman case from Neville Spencer of the Green Left Weekly:
“In December 2009, a Bulgarian court convicted 23-year-old Australian Jock Palfreeman of the murder of 20-year-old Bulgarian man Andrey Monov, who died of a knife wound. Palfreeman was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
This resulted from an incident in December 2007 in which Palfreeman, according to his own account, came to the aid of two men of the minority Roma community who were being attacked by a gang of 16 men.
Palfreeman was denied bail and spent nearly two years in jail before finally being sentenced.
The court rejected his claim of self-defence after many irregularities, such as blocking witness statements that supported his account and the suspicious disappearance of critical CCTV footage.”

The video news report from Australian Story producer Belinda Hawkins, Part One and Part Two:
In an odd twist during this sad saga reporters Gemma Jones and Clementine Cuneo of The Daily Telegraph wrote that James Atack alleged Jack Palfreeman stabbed him and his friend Matt during an earlier confrontation in 2004.
However the facts and evidence to not support this. The NSW Police investigated this earlier brawl and no charges were brought against Jock Palfreeman. There is no credible evidence that Jock ever stabbed anyone in 2004. In fact Palfreeman has no history of violence.
Incredibly the Bulgarian prosecutors included this false news report in their indictment and tried to have it admitted as evidence in his trial. Although it was denied by the court, the Bulgarian press reported the prosecutor’s remarks, thereby tainting the public’s opinion of Jock.
